Acquisition expands LMI's turnkey machine vision capabilities, combining proven weld inspection technology and expertise
with advanced 3D sensing, software, and global support.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — November 2, 2026 — LMI Technologies, a global leader in smart vision solutions and part of TKH Group NV, today announced the completed acquisition of VITRONIC's Weld Seam Inspection (WSI) business. Following the fulfillment of the agreed closing requirements, WSI becomes part of TKH Group's machine vision business, expanding LMI's capabilities in turnkey inspection solutions for automotive manufacturing and heavy industry.

The acquisition brings together WSI's established inspection technology, specialized welding expertise, experienced team, and long-standing customer relationships with LMI's advanced 3D sensing and software capabilities. Together, these strengths create new opportunities to advance automated weld inspection, process optimization, and manufacturing quality assurance.
For decades, automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers have relied on VITRONIC WSI for non-destructive, inline inspection and traceability of safety-critical welds. As part of LMI, the business gains access to a broader technology portfolio and international organization, providing a strong foundation for continued innovation and growth.
Proven Weld Inspection Technology
The WSI portfolio joining LMI includes:
- VIRO WSI with VICT-10, VICT-30, and VICT-40 sensors. Automated, non-destructive 3D inline weld seam inspection at production speed. The system measures critical weld geometry, including weld width, reinforcement, throat thickness, toe angle, and gap, while detecting surface defects such as pores, spatter, and undercut.
- Weldloop. Software that connects optical 3D weld seam measurements with welding process data, helping manufacturers identify correlations between welding parameters and resulting weld quality.
- WSI Visualization. The operator interface displays inspection results, localizes defects, and supports rework, scrap, and release decisions at manual rework stations.
- AI-Enhanced Inspection and Quality Analytics. Existing AI-supported inspection capabilities provide a foundation for further development in defect classification and quality analysis. Planned enhancements include expanded deep-learning capabilities and WSI Web for centralized monitoring and historical quality statistics.
WSI technology is established in demanding automotive applications, including EV battery structures, body-in-white, and axle and powertrain components. Its ability to inspect complex weld geometries inline supports manufacturers seeking consistent quality, improved traceability, reduced rework, and more efficient production processes.
Building on Proven Expertise
"WSI is a strong addition to our business, bringing proven inspection technology, valuable application expertise, and close customer relationships," said Mark Radford, CEO of LMI Technologies. "Combining these strengths with LMI's 3D sensing and software capabilities creates opportunities to further develop the product offering and deliver greater value to customers. We are pleased to welcome the WSI team, customers, and partners to LMI and look forward to building the next chapter together."
The acquisition also provides WSI with a new foundation for growth within an organization where industrial inspection and machine vision are core strategic activities.
Continuity for Existing Customers
Following closing, LMI assumes responsibility for the WSI business, including ongoing customer projects, service commitments, and support.
Experienced WSI engineering, product management, project management and service specialists are joining LMI, preserving the expertise and customer relationships established under VITRONIC. The teams are coordinating a phased transition to maintain continuity for customers and partners.
Existing VIRO WSI systems, VICT sensors, software, and associated service arrangements will continue to be supported. Current product names will remain in use during the initial integration period.
What's Ahead
As WSI becomes part of LMI's broader machine vision business, future development opportunities include:
- Expanded Global Support. Leveraging LMI's international organization to strengthen customer service, technical support, and regional accessibility.
- Advanced Inspection and AI. Combining WSI's specialized welding expertise with LMI's 3D sensing and software technologies to advance defect detection, inspection accuracy, and quality analytics.
- Broader Technology Integration. Exploring opportunities to build on LMI's Gocator® sensor portfolio and GoPxL® and GoFactory software platforms, supporting more flexible and scalable inspection solutions.
These initiatives will be introduced progressively as product development and integration plans advance.
