Summary

AI can identify complex defects, anomalies, and variable conditions that are difficult to define with traditional vision. But inference alone is not a production inspection. Manufacturing still requires reliable acquisition, localization, measurement, tolerance logic, pass/fail decisions, communication, visualization, and traceability.

Production-ready inspection uses each technology where it performs best. AI handles visual variability, while rules-based vision provides deterministic measurement, verification, and control. AI results can become inputs to downstream inspection tools—allowing an anomaly region to be measured, a classification to select inspection logic, or an object detection result to define a dynamic region of interest.
