"Feature" Outputs for Tools

In addition to producing single-valued measurement results, tools now output points and lines called “Features”.

Features can be fed to Feature tools that can produce geometric measurements that previously required scripts or other solutions. Watch the video for an in-depth look at how this works in the Surface Edge tool.

Extracting Complex Geometry with Features

Feature tools take features as inputs and produce measurements based on more complicated geometry calculations. Watch the video on the left for an in-depth look at the Feature Intersection Tool and Feature Dimension Tool.

Angle Anchoring for Greater Measurement Reliability

In Gocator, regions of interest (ROI) have always been able to track the horizontal or vertical movement of a part using X, Y or Z anchoring.

Now, regions can also track the angular movement​ of a part using angle anchoring. This means that your ROIs can track part rotation and achieve higher repeatability as a result. Watch the video to see how it works!

Gocator Accelerator (GoX) for Sensor Acceleration

An introduction to the GoX using a 3110 snapshot sensor. Learn how GoX is used to decrease cycle times by offloading data processing to a PC for added processing speed and memory capacity.

GOCATOR ACCELERATOR

The Gocator Accelerator (GoX) is a Windows PC application that allows you to add the data-processing power of one or more PCs to your inspection solution. Setup is easy as selecting a Gocator for acceleration and launching a web browser session on your PC to perform local acquisition, measurement, and control.

The Gocator Emulator is a standalone application that allows you to run a “virtual” sensor using pre-recorded data without the need for a physical sensor. Emulator supports SDK developers to create their applications using a virtual Gocator before real hardware is needed.

GOCATOR® IS 3D SCANNING TECHNOLOGY.

POINT PROFILERS

Point profilers use a focused laser point to scan at 32 kHz along the direction of part travel, or inspect displacement in a fast moving inline process. They are ideal for measuring object dimensions such as thickness, height and surface roughness.

LINE PROFILERS

Line profilers use a projected laser line to perform high-resolution geometry, surface and volumetric measurements at inline production speed. 

SNAPSHOT SENSORS

Gocator snapshot sensors combine structured light with built-in 3D measurement tools for specific object features. They are ideal for inline inspection of parts with start/stop motion such as robotic inspection and pick-and-place.

Part Matching

This feature allows you to inspect parts regardless of their orientation on the assembly line. Edge matching capability automatically performs part realignment before applying Gocator’s built-in measurement tools.

Part Sectioning

With Part Sectioning in Surface Mode you can extract a cross-section from a 3D model of a part and perform advanced measurements. Ideal for measuring cut lines, this feature allows you to add and position multiple sections on a part.

Anchoring

The Anchoring feature allows you to track the movement of parts within the field of view of the sensor and correct for variations in the height and position of parts. This feature allows you to solve  applications with part and size variations.

Gocator’s built-in tools provide a full suite of measurement capabilities to solve a wide range of inspection challenges.

 

Profile Measurement

Gocator’s profile tools detect and compare feature points or fit lines found within laser profile data. Measurement values are compared against minimum and maximum thresholds to yield accurate control decisions.

 

Surface Measurement

3D surface measurement involves measuring surface properties such as volume and height at a certain position. Gocator’s volumetric tools have the ability to operate on the entire surface or the full object or within a region of interest at a given position in relation to the object’s surface.

Panel (Gap & Flush) Tool

The panel tool automatically carries out gap and flush measurements. Gap measurement provides the distance between the edges of two surfaces, and flush measurement provides the flushness between the edges of two surfaces.

Strip Tool

A strip is a section of a profile with a distinct step height. The Strip tool measures the width of a strip, and lets you add multiple measurements of the same type to take data and set decisions for multiple strips.

Countersunk Hole tool

The Countersunk Hole Tool automatically locates a countersunk circular opening on the object surface and provides measurements to evaluate its characteristics—including position (X, Y, and Z), outside radius, bevel angle
and depth.

Surface Plane Tool

This tool fits a region of points to a surface and calculates plane angles X and Y and offset Z from an alignment target. Results of the Plane Angle X and Y measurements can be used to customize the tilt angle in the Hole, Opening, and Stud tools.

Part Matching Automatically Aligns and Inspects Arbitrarily Oriented Parts

With the Part Matching feature, Gocator can accurately inspect parts regardless of their orientation as they pass on a transportation system (e.g. assembly line). Typically, users have to develop specialized image processing algorithms or need to mechanically re-align parts that are presented out-of-position.

Gocator simplifies this with powerful and flexible Edge Matching capability that automatically performs part realignment before applying Gocator’s built-in measurements tools.

Part Sectioning for Performing Advanced 3D Measurements

Watch the short instructional video above to learn how Sectioning allows you to define a cross-section from a 3D model of a part in Surface Mode, then perform advanced 3D measurements on that section. Sectioning is ideal for leveraging the existing profile tools and is a significant addition to Gocator Firmware's functionality.

Greater Ability To Handle Part Variations with Flexible Anchoring

With Flexible Anchoring, measurement results can be used as anchoring sources for other measurements. This feature supports multiple anchoring sources within the same setup. Measurement tools can now be used to solve complex applications with part position and size variations, giving users the flexibility in setting up measurement tools. There is no limit to the number of anchors used in an application.

Tag & Track

Tag and track parts to make precise and timely downstream control decisions. Each part is tagged with a decision and tracked by its encoder position until the appropriate downstream location is reached. The sensor then activates the appropriate control decision.

Part Detection

Part Detection allows you to detect individual parts and build a 3D model ready for measurement. This feature auto detects and separates multiple parts appearing simultaneously, with the ability to use gap filling to connect related parts into a single part.

Surface Generation

This feature enables you to leverage a number of different methods to create a surface (height map). Surface Generation provides greater control and flexibility for supporting common industry scanning methods like conveyor, web, robotic, and rotational setups (see video below).

Surface Generation Offers Flexibility With Various Setup Options

The latest Firmware now supports a number of methods to create a surface or a 3D point cloud. This provides greater control and flexibility for supporting common industry scanning methods such as conveyor, web, robotic, and rotational scanning setup.

GOCATOR® IS MORE THAN JUST A SENSOR.

MULTI-SENSOR NETWORKING

When an application calls for more than a standalone or dual sensor system, multiple sensors can be networked using an LMI Master.

  • The Master product line offers models that support 8 and 24 Gocator connections
  • Masters provide power, laser safety and distributed synchronization (time, encoder, external trigger)
  • Each Gocator transmits 3D profile data to the host computer through standard Ethernet switches
  • Can be interconnected to form larger unlimited networks (eg., daisy chain one 24 port with another with another and so on)
  • The daisy chain interconnect passes on synchronization for distribution to all sensors in the larger network
